BOHOL – The Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas successfully conducted a Barangay Charity and Medical Mission on May 6, 2026 for the Badjao community in Barangay Totolan, Dauis, Bohol, providing essential health and social services to 1,500 beneficiaries from the community.

A wide range of medical, legal, and community services were made available during the mission, including blood sugar testing, blood pressure and temperature checks, basic medical consultations, dental services, free medicines, prescription eyeglasses, legal advice, free haircuts, a feeding program, and the distribution of grocery baskets to families.

Prior to the activity, beneficiaries from the Badjao community also participated in a coastal clean-up drive in Barangay Totolan, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to environmental responsibility, cooperation, and collective action toward maintaining a cleaner and more organized surroundings.

According to Liga National President Jessica Dy, the mission serves as a reminder that helping others does not always require money. “Napakaraming taong naghihirap, hindi lang naman yung mga beneficiaries natin ngayon, pero one of the reminders na sinasabi sa kanila is lahat tayo may kakayahang tumulong. Hindi kailangan ng pera para makatulong tayo sa kapwa. Kung may oras ka, may malasakit, may talento, may tenga ka para makinig, maaari tayong tumulong,” she shared.

Meanwhile, Barangay Totolan Kagawad Geormar Narciso expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying, “This is the first time in history na nandito yung charity work ng Liga.”

Bohol Liga Chapter and Region 1 Pres. Romulo Cepedoza also thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the mission. “Maraming salamat sa inyo, dahil kung hindi sa inyo, hindi natin matutulungan yung mga Badjao. Hopefully this is not the last medical mission na gagawin natin dito sa Bohol,” he said.

For beneficiary Hanipat Nehebino, the assistance brought meaningful relief to their family especially to her child. “Malaking tulong po ito sa aming pamilya,” she shared.

The Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas extends its sincere gratitude to Faustino “Bojie” Dy III for sponsoring the grocery baskets distributed to the beneficiaries, as well as to UNILAB for providing free medicines for the mission. The organization also thanks the doctors, dentists, ophthalmologists, pharmacists, hairdressers, barangay health workers (BHWs), barangay officials, tanods, and volunteers whose time, effort, and dedication helped make the activity successful.

The Liga also expresses its appreciation to Bohol Liga Chapter and Region 1 Pres. Romulo Cepedoza, Governor Erico Aumentado, Mayor Marietta Sumaylo, Dauis Liga Chapter Pres. Josever Sumaylo, and Totolan Kap. Quiliano Clarin for their invaluable assistance, dedication, and commitment in helping bring these services closer to the community.

This initiative serves as a reminder that through unity and collective action, meaningful assistance and essential services can be brought closer to communities that need them most.
