Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas Joins Clean Philippines Project Identification Mission

The Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas, under the leadership of National President Maria Katrina Jessica G. Dy, actively participated in the Clean Philippines Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) Project – Identification Mission held on September 30, 2025.

The Clean Philippines Project, supported by the World Bank, brings together key national and local stakeholders, including the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP). The project aims to strengthen the country’s solid waste management systems and reduce ocean-bound plastic pollution through performance-based incentives and grants for LGUs.

During the meeting, stakeholders discussed the modalities of the project, the involvement of LGUs, and the mechanisms needed to ensure its successful implementation. The Liga emphasized the importance of aligning the program with local development and waste management plans, and ensuring that barangays are equipped with the necessary support and capacity-building to effectively meet project targets.

The Liga also underscored the call for equitable access to performance-based grants, particularly for low-income and coastal LGUs, and reiterated its position that funds should be directly downloaded to barangays to enable timely and efficient program implementation.
